Environmental led lighting Energy efficient LED lighting Low energy led lighting will come to be the standard method of lighting new homes and businesses in the next decade and has already started to replace conventional lighting in many homes. Rapid increases in technology have taken led lights from a novelty item first seen in digital watches in the 1970’s to the lighting choice of the future.
With the phasing out of conventional light bulbs already started-75-100W light bulbs were stopped being sold in January 2009 and 60W A- shaped going in January 2010 and the fact that the lighting industry has more or less stopped any new research into low energy CFL lighting it is clear that the future of lighting is now led.
Led lights offer a number of advantages over both filament and low energy CFL light bulbs. One of the major advantages is their extremely long life span. A low energy CFL light bulb will last on average about 6,000 hours and a tungsten filament bulb about 3,000 hours. The latest led lights and lamps have a lifespan of more than 60,000 hours in normal use which could see one bulb lasting for more than 20 years without having to be replaced.
Led lights are also much cheaper to run than conventional light bulbs. A led lamp uses 85% less energy than a standard tungsten filament and about half as much as low energy light bulb. Led lighting is now fully endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust and other leading green organizations.
While the initial cost of replacing say halogen lamps with leds may at first glance appear to be expensive in just a couple of years they will have more than paid for themselves with increased cost efficiency and the fact that they have to be replaced so rarely.
